Autocar Asian Car of the Year - How it works

The Autocar Asian Car of the Year Award is awarded to the single best production car available in Asia each year as voted by the judges who are senior editors from Autocar magazine across the region.

To be eligible for the Award cars must be commercially available and in series production in three of more markets in which Autocar magazine is published in Asia between 1 October and 30 September of the previous year.  From this list the judge's chairman choses the six overall best cars which form the shortlist.

All the judges then vote on the six shortlisted cars using a points scoring system. Each judge has a total of 25 points to award across at least five of the six shortlisted cars. The judge’s first choice can receive a maximum of 10 points only. The same number of points cannot be awarded by the judge to the first two chosen cars.

The winner is the car which receives the highest total number of points.

In case of a dead heat the car voted first by the greatest number of judges is declared the winner. If the dead heat persists the tie is decided by the car with the greatest number of second places and so on.
