What is the Autocar Asian car of the Year Award?
The Autocar Asian Car of the Year Award is the region’s first and only multi-market automotive award recognising the best production car in Asia. Launched in 2012 the Award is organised by Haymarket Media Group the publisher of Autocar in India (and the UK) and its local market monthly licensed Autocar editions in China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Who are the judges?
The judges are senior motoring journalists across the ten different market-specific editions of Autocar in Asia; two from each edition with a total of 20 judges. Collectively they have nearly 200 years of experience writing about and testing cars. For more detailed biographies on each of the judges

Which cars are eligible?
For cars to be eligible for the award they must have been made available commercially and in series proudction in three or more of the nine markets in which Autocar is published in Asia between 1 October and 30 September of the previous year. In all 34 models of car fitted these criteria forming the shortlist in 2014.

What is the shortlist?
The list of eligible cars as outlined above was narrowed down by the Judge's Chairman to a shortlist of the six overall best cars available in the region.

How is it judged?
The judges vote on the six shortlisted cars using a points scoring system. Each judge has a total of 25 points to award across at least five of the six shortlisted cars.

The judge’s first choice can receive a maximum of 10 points only. The same number of points cannot be awarded by the judge to the first two chosen cars.

The winner is the car which receives the highest total number of points.

In case of a dead heat the car voted first by the greatest number of judges is declared the winner. If the dead heat persists the tie is decided by the car with the greatest number of second places and so on.

What criteria are the cars judged on?
General design, comfort, safety, economy, handling and general roadworthiness, performance, functionality, general environmental requirements, driver satisfaction, technical innovation and value for money. Each judge also gives a summary of the reasons for their judgement.

When is the winner announced?
The winner will be announced in late March and will be presented with the trophy at the main motorshow in China in late April of each year.

What is Autocar?
Autocar is one of the world’s most respected motoring magazines. Published in the UK since 1895 Autocar is credited with creating the road test in 1928 having conducted over 5,000 road tests in total. The magazine first came to Asia with the launch of the Indian edition in 1999. Over the next decade more locally published and produced editions launched giving Autocar an unrivalled footprint across the region.

Where is Autocar magazine published in Asia?
Local market specific editions of Autocar are published monthly in China in simplified Chinese, India, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore in English, Indonesia in Indonesian, Japan in Japanese, Korea in Korean, Thailand in Thai and Vietnam in Vietnamese. Our network of editors are based in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Mumbai, Delhi, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Autocar has a distribution of over 700,000 copies across the region each month.
